Modi’s role in Ishrat killing

Modi’s role in Ishrat killing will be exposed soon, says Cong:

: Modi will be exposed soon, says Congress

With CBI holding as “fake” the 2004 encounter of Ishrat Jahan in Gujarat, Congress on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Narendra Modi saying “truth speaks for itself from the rooftop” and claimed that the chief minister’s role in such encounters will also be exposed.

“He (Modi) will also be exposed some time. Truth comes out at one point or the other. Truth speaks for itself from the rooftop. Someday, you will come to know of the real face of the Gujarat Chief Minister,” AICC general secretary Madhusudan Mistri told reporters.

Congress to counter BJP social media campaign

Congress to counter BJP social media campaign: Digvijay Singh:

Panaji: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, who has been appointed as the Goa in-charge by the All India Congress Committee, said here on Wednesday that he was the most abused man on social networking websites.

Singh said that the Congress will "aggressively venture into the social media arena" to counter the campaign by BJP's election campaign manager Narendra Modi.

"You will see difference within three months, although Digvijay Singh is the most abused person on social media," he said, referring to the Congress party's plan to opt for a social media campaign.

He interacted with elected representatives, Pradesh Congress committee members and office bearers of the party today, during his day long visit here.

Addressing the gathering, Singh appealed the workers to counter the information campaign run by the BJP and the Sangh Parivar through the social media.

He said that the information technology cell of the Goa Congress party unit should work with frontal organisations like the National Students Union of India and the Pradesh Youth Congress to counter the BJP social media campaign.

"Congress leaders should activate their Facebook and Twitter accounts to launch an information campaign," he added

Narendra Modi : hope for UPA and BJP

After being on the verge of extinction in Uttar Pradesh for more than a decade, the two main political parties, the Congress and the BJP, have pinned their hopes on the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Interestingly, the ray of hope for both the political parties is the newly-appointed BJP poll committee campaign chief and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. While the saffron party is confident that  Modi's charisma will help the BJP in winning a massive victory, the Congress is optimistic that elevation of Gujarat Chief Minister within the party will polarize the vote in its favour.

This is the reason why the Congress has launched an aggressive campaign against the saffron party, Modi in particular, instead of targeting the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). On the other hand, the BJP has decided to take on the SP and Congress over the issue of Muslim appeasement.

It is to be noted that the Congress had taken everybody by surprise by wining 22 Lok Sabha seats in the last general elections, but failed to repeat its performance during assembly elections. This time Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi has entrusted the responsibility of Uttar Pradesh to general secretary Madhusudan Mistry, who led the party to massive victory in the recently-held Karnataka assembly elections. Mistry has been working in Uttar Pradesh for quite a long time.
Mistry’s main target in the coming elections will be the BJP. According to sources, apart from Modi, the Congress will also focus on social equations in the distribution of tickets. The Congress is expected to keep its campaign centralized over only one message: ‘Congress is the only option before people if they want to stop BJP (Modi)’. According to the Congress, the SP or BSP cannot be an alternative to BJP.

On the other hand, the BJP will target both the Congress and SP equally. Interestingly, like Mistry, the BJP in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, Amit Shah, is also from Gujarat. There are clear indications that Shah can apply Gujarat formula during distributions of tickets in Uttar Pradesh. Along with focusing on inducting youths in the party, the main focus of the saffron party will be the issue of appeasement of Muslims.

While the BJP will try to woo people by showing Gujarat growth model, the Congress will try to raise the issue of corruption and lop-sided development of Gujarat before the people of Uttar Pradesh.

Narendra Modi, a ray of hope for BJP as well as Congress in Uttar Pradesh

Hitting out at BJP for making allegations that the CBI was being misused to frame Narendra Modi in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case, Congress on Saturday asked that if the opposition party was "clean", why was it afraid of the probe.

"People, who are not guilty ... should not be worried ... If they (BJP) are clean, why are they afraid of probe? Why do they expect that law should not take its course?" Congress spokesperson Bhakta Charan Das said.

"Unless and until the highest court convicts a person, you cannot say that the person is guilty," Das added.

"Congress has a pathological hatred against Narendra Modi even though people adore him for impeccable integrity and outstandingrecord of governance. In spite of repeated defeats in elections, the CBI is being abused as an instrument to frame him on questionable, collusive and spurious testimony," BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad had said on Friday.

Unimpressed by the Union Cabinet's decision to set up a collegium for choosing the CBI Director, the BJP had also alleged that the government was not serious about granting autonomy to the probe agency and continues to misuse it for political gains.

Countering the allegations, Das said that at a time the government was talking of giving autonomy to the probe agency, it was relevant to "raise fingers on the CBI".

He also hit out at the BJP over the continuance of Gujarat water resources minister Babubhai Bokhariya.

Narendra Modi is a criminal : Sanjiv bhatt

Bhatt accused Modi of complicity in the 2002 post-Godhra riots and said he will be brought to justice if he had any role to play in the communal violence.
Suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, who was released from bail on Monday, called Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi "a common criminal" and said he needed to be treated like one.

Bhatt, who has accused Modi of complicity in the 2002 post-Godhra riots, said he will be brought to justice if he had any role to play in the communal violence.

"Narendra Modi may be the Chief Minister of Gujarat. But as far as 2002 riots of Gujarat go, he is a criminal, so he has to be treated like a common criminal and that should be his fate eventually," he told reporters after his release from Sabarmati prison where he was lodged for 17 days after his arrest.

"If he(Modi) has had a role to play in 2002 riots he will be brought to justice and all of us will do our best to achieve that. There is ample evidence against him," he said stepping up his attack against Modi with whom he is locked in a confrontation over the riots.

"As a police officer I see him(Modi) as a criminal and I don't have any doubts about it," he added.

When asked about harassment by police while in lock-up at the city crime branch, Bhatt said, "It is unfortunate and shameful that I also belong to the same Gujarat cadre of officers."

Modi, Shah knew of plot to kill Ishrat: CBI official

The Ishrat Jahan encounter case is likely to take a politically interesting turn, as evidence gathered by the CBI suggests that the state authorities had prior knowledge of the allegedly staged killings on June 15, 2004.

An investigator, requesting anonymity, told HT that chief minister Narendra Modi and then junior home minister Amit Shah could have been “in the loop”. But, he said, the evidence was still being verified.

Ishrat, 19, a Mumbai college student and an alleged Lashkar suicide bomber, and her three associates – Javed Sheikh alias Pranesh Pillai, Amjad Ali Rana and Jeeshan Johar – were killed in an encounter with the Gujarat police. The police claimed th
at they had come to Gujarat to kill Modi.

Although state government spokesperson Nitin Patel refused to comment on the issue, former spokesperson Jaynarayan Vyas said, "These are only media reports... Let the CBI file the charge sheet first.”

The CBI charge sheet, likely to be filed on July 4, will claim that the encounter was staged and Rajinder Kumar, then head of the Gujarat unit of the Intelligence Bureau, had colluded with the cops to have Ishrat and her associates killed.

A source in the investigating team said, "Kumar not only generated a false alert and helped organise the prior custody of the four, he also procured an AK 56 rifle that was planted on the bodies to make them look like LeT terrorists.”

Earlier, when Kumar was summoned by the CBI, the IB chief moved the home ministry and the PMO and eventually extracted the assurance that Kumar could be touched only after his retirement on July 31.

Uttarakhand floods: In Kedarnath, crores vanish from bank chest

NEW DELHI: Man's baser instincts were at work even at the time of a calamitous tragedy. A week after the cloud-burst close to the Kedarnath temple, the police in Uttarakhand recovered Rs 83 lakh from a man trying to take a rescue chopper and arrested him. Initial inquiries revealed the money was part of Rs 5 crore in a State Bank of India chest at the Kedarnath branch, and were proceedings from the temple which was washed away along with most of the structures in the pilgrim town.

So far, the Uttarakhand police have recovered only Rs 83 lakh and no one has a clue about the rest of the money. Uttarakhand DGP Satyavrat Bansal told TOI that efforts are being made to recover the rest of the money and confirmed that one man was arrested after he was found with Rs 83 lakh that he could not explain. News of missing cash spread like wildfire with unconfirmed reports said a number of people from Kedarnath town had found the chest full of cash but did not inform anyone.

Speaking on phone from Ukhimath, an official of Kedarnath temple committee, Raj Kumar, said, "The bank adjoining pujari niwas (priests' quarters) crumbled and swept away along with other structures. I, and over 300 pilgrims, hid inside the temple."

Raj Kumar said wads of currency notes in the bank's almirahs and safe were strewn far from the shrine. When some local people saw the money sloshing around, they took no time to fill their bags and fled with it. On June 19, some people saw a suspicious-looking unidentified man waiting to be airlifted. He was handed over to police. "The cash was seized from this man and the bank was informed about the series of the notes for confirmation," said Birenderjeet Singh, SP, Rudraprayag.

Singh said the rescue teams were informed about the missing cash from Kedarnath. "We can't say anything about where the cash is, but our effort is to recover it," he said.

The Kedarnath shrine had a daily collection of nearly Rs 1 lakh, which was deposited with the SBI. The bank's cash storage capacity is Rs 2.5 crore. Asked why was such huge amount of cash being stashed in the bank, Kumar said, "The cash wasn't deposited to the main branch at Ukhimat and now there is little possibility of recovery."

Recalling the apocalyptic moment, Kumar said, "I ran inside the main temple and along with 300 others, mostly pilgrims, spent the night there. The dreadful roar of water and sludge gushing over the main temple left us scared. We stepped out when we heard Army choppers on Monday morning," said Kumar.

Nitish will be wiped out in 2014: Rajnath

"Nitishji, you will be wiped out in the 2014 Lok Sabha election since you have touched the Congress," BJP president Rajnath Singh told an impressive gathering of party workers at the Sanjay Gandhi stadium at Gardanibagh on Sunday. "What was the crime committed by [Gujarat chief minister] Narendra Modi which upset you? He set a new model of development that has been appreciated globally. You felt jealous of his popularity. I made him chairman of the campaign committee of the BJP because I thought he was the right choice to lead the party towards victory in 2014 LS election. You did not raise the Modi issue till 2013."         Exhorting BJP workers, he said: "Let the JD(U) go to the Congress. Work hard and ensure that all the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar are bagged by the BJP in the 2014 election." He regretted that Nitish did not maintain the minimum decency expected of a friend of 17 years. "He did not ask his colleagues to resign but unceremoniously dismissed them," Rajnath said. "The people of Bihar will never forget it, Nitishji.    Former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi called Nitish insensitive and said he dismissed health minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey while the latter was struggling for life at Kedarnath in the Uttarakhand hills. "You have overestimated yourself," Sushil Kumar Modi said of Nitish. The deputy CM alleged that Nitish opposed the Gujarat CM and joined hands with the Congress because he wanted to become prime minister himself.
